37-yard field goal as time
expired to give the Purple
team a 17-14 victory overt
the White team in the annual
University of North Alabama
Purple-White Spring football
game at Braly Stadium. The
Purple team scored 17
unanswered points as they
rallied from an early 14-0
deficit.
The White team, which
consisted of the first-team
offense, drove the field on
the opening possession of
the game before junior
transfer quarterback Tate
Humphrey was picked off by
senior cornerback Deivon
Tate on the goal line.
Following a punt by the
Purple team, Humphrey
connected with senior
transfer wide receiver Tim
Hawthorne for a 41-yard
touchdown pass for the
game's first score. Humphrey
finished the day completing
8-of-17 passes for 118
yards with one touchdown and
one interception.
The White team scored again
on an eight-play, 77-yard
touchdown drive. Senior
running back Wes Holland ran
the final six yards to give
the White team a 14-0 lead.
Red-shirt freshman
quarterback Simon Propst of
Hoover completed a 34-yard
pass to wide receiver Jason
Smith before scoring on a
seven-yard run with just
under two minutes left in
the first half to get the
Purple team on the board.
The Purple team then tied
the game on a 70-yard
touchdown pass from Propst
to Smith. The play was the
longest of the day. Propst
then drove the team on a
7-play, 38-yard drive to set
up the game-winning attempt
by Schuster.
Propst completed 15-of-31
passes for 211 yards with
one touchdown and one
interception on the day.
Holland led the White team
with eight carries for
28-yards. Humphrey added
13-carries for 22-yards
while senior Jusmon Rivers
carried the ball three times
for 24 yards and four
catches for 33 yards.
