CARROLLTON, Ga.,
– The University of North
Alabama women’s basketball
team completed the road
portion of its Gulf South
Conference schedule Saturday
evening with a 56-41 victory
at West Georgia. With the
win, the Lions remain in
second place in the East
Division with a 5-2 league
record, including a 4-1 mark
on the road this year. UWG
falls to 8-14 overall and
1-5 in league play.
Lacy Lewis led UNA with 13
points and eight rebounds on
the night. Jameica York
added 11 points on the night
while Brianna Abrams tossed
in 10 points for the Lions.
West Georgia was led by
Whitley Mayberry’s 12 points
and eight rebounds.
North Alabama (13-12
overall) held a 36-32 edge
in rebounding and limited
the Wolves to just 28
percent shooting from the
floor. UWG also went
2-for-10 from three-point
range, and scored just 16
points in the first half.
The Lions led 22-16 at the
half and shot 45.5 percent
(20-of-44) for the game with
four three-pointers.
UNA will return home next
week and play four of the
season’s final five games at
Flowers Hall. The Lions will
host West Alabama on
Thursday with tip-off set
for 6 p.m. Fans are
encouraged to wear white to
the game to support the
program’s White Out the
Tigers promotion.
