LIONS FINISH UNA CLASSIC WITH UNDEFEATED MARK

FLORENCE – A pair of 3-1 victories by North Alabama on the final day of the UNA Volleyball Classic gave the Lions an undefeated showing at the event. UNA knocked off Southern Wesleyan and Quincy in four sets each to improve to 6-2 on the season. The Lions will now turn their attention to Gulf South Conference play, which begins Tuesday with a trip to West Alabama.
 
In the opener on Saturday, four players reached double figures in kills during the 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19 victory over SWU. UNA hit .341 as a team and added a season-high 10 total blocks.
 
Natasha Fomina helped the Lions get off to a fast start with six kills in the opening set. She finished with 16 for the match. Jessica Austin and Lexie Bradley added 12 kills each. Austin hit .524 and totaled three blocks while Bradley recorded four service aces for the Lions. Victoria Quintanilla rounded out the top hitters with 11 kills and a match-high .667 hitting percentage. Andrea De Leon also had 47 assists.
 
Defensively, Ashtyn Kapovich turned in a season-high 21 dig. Southern Wesleyan was led by Sarah Hughey's match-high 24 kills.
 
The Lions were poised to sweep Quincy before a comeback victory by the Hawks in the third set forced another game. UNA was forced to rally for the deciding win of the 25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21 victory. North Alabama trailed 14-8 before a kill by Bradley started the comeback.
 
A kill by Peyton Lang made the score 18-17 and gave the Lions their first lead of the fourth set. Quincy was able to respond by tying the game at 19-19, but could never take the lead.
 
Fomina and Bradley combined for 27 kills, including Fomina's match-high 14. Quintanilla also reached double figures for the second straight match with 10 kills.
 
For the match, De Leon totaled the most assist (48) and digs (14) for her fifth double-double of the season. Kapovich and Sarah Ann Tillery added 10 digs each.
