The University of North Alabama softball team was selected to host the 2016 NCAA Division II South 1 Regional. The Lions earned the No. 1 seed in the region and will welcome No. 4 seed Saint Leo, No. 5 seed UAH and No. 8 seed Tuskegee to town for the double-eliminated tournament May 5-7 at the UNA Softball Complex at Cox Creek Park.

TEAMS: The following teams will compete in the 2016 NCAA Softball SR1 Tournament

 •  North Alabama Lions (No. 1 seed, 49-5)
 •  Saint Leo Lions (No. 4 seed, 38-6)
 •  UAH Chargers (No. 5 seed, 38-15)
 •  Tuskegee Lady Golden Tigers  (No. 8 seed, 23-29)

SCHEDULE: Postseason play is scheduled to begin with the first of two games at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 5th with Saint Leo vs. UAH. Host North Alabama will take on Tuskegee at 4:30 p.m. Day two will feature three games, beginning with the winner's bracket final at 2 p.m. Elimination games will follow to set up a championship on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. An 'if necessary' game would be played immediately following. TICKETS:  Tickets can be purchased at the gate. Daily pass prices for each day of the Tournament shall be $12 for adults Thursday and Friday and $10 on Saturday, $8 for students Thursday-Friday and $5 on Saturday. Children 5 and under are FREE. All Tournament passes can also be purchased for $20 for adults and $15 for students.
 

VENUE:  The UNA Softball Complex is located 2.7 miles North of the UNA main campus. The Home of the Lions was renovated before the 2006 season and features a new press box, bleacher-type grandstand seating, a concession stand and a concourse area. UNA's home dugout has an inside door connecting to the team's locker room, which includes a bathroom, training room, laundry room, showers and training room. The visiting dugout also has its own bathroom. The playing field features a new padded backstop. There is also a warm-up area beyond the outfield fence. In 2010, the complex got a new scoreboard, showing inning-by-inning scores as well as balls, strikes and outs. A viewing deck in right field was constructed the following year. In 2013, the field dimensions were changed to 195 feet down the lines and 210 feet in center field. The outfield fence also received a black screening with the wording NORTH ALABAMA SOFTBALL printed in purple lettering.
