CARROLLTON, Ga. -- The University of North Alabama women's soccer team closed its 2017 regular-season with a 2-1 road win at West Georgia on a goal in 82nd minute by senior
Michelle Hunter.
North Alabama, now 13-3-1 overall and 11-2-1 in the Gulf South Conference, will open play in the 2017 GSC Tournament at home on Tuesday, October 31 at 7 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
West Georgia took the early lead on a goal at 15:42 from Francessca Ellis but the Lions countered with a tying goal from
Kylie Huey at the 20:26 mark. It was Huey's GSC-leading 13th goal of the season and was assisted by
Beatriz Fernandes.
The game remained tied until the 82nd minute when Hunter scored her sixth goal of the season off an assist from Huey. The goal at 81:42 gave the Lions the 2-1 win.
UNA was out-shot 15 to eight in the match, with the Lions managing just five shots on goal. UNA's
Shelby Thornton recorded six saves in goal.
