Michelle Hunter and
Margarida Sousa scored goals as the University of North Alabama women's soccer team opened Gulf South Conference play with a 2-1 win over Christian Brothers at the UNA Soccer Complex.
UNA, now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the GSC, got a goal from Hunter at the 22:01 mark off an assist from
Shelby Wall. The Lions then made it 2-0 as Sousa scored her first goal of the season off a corner kick by
Kristen Sinden and a pass from
Beatriz Fernandes.
CBU, 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the GSC, scored in the 86
th minute to avoid a shutout. Caitlin Barnes scored off an assist from Amalia Skalos.
UNA out-shot CBU 18 to five in the match. North Alabama goalkeeper
Shelby Thornton recorded two saves.
North Alabama hosts Union Sunday at 1:00.
