MONTGOMERY – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team won 84 consecutive games Sunday during a 4-0 victory over Mississippi Valley State. The Lions swept through doubles and singles play at Montgomery's Lagoon Park to improve to 5-7 on the year.

Elise Sickle and Payton Andrews won their second consecutive doubles match, posting a 6-0 victory at the No. 2 position. Claire DeGeorge and Nele Seitz matched that with their own 6-0 win at No. 3 to secure the 1-0 overall lead. Nina Linke and Megan Humphreys were ahead 5-0 at No. 1 doubles when their match was halted to begin singles play.

With the 1-0 lead, the Lions quickly clinched the match. Sickle and DeGeorge finished at the same time winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Linke then clinched the match with another 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the No. 3 spot. Andrews (6-0, 5-0 at No. 1), Sydney Flesch (6-0, 3-0 at No. 2) and Humphreys (6-0, 5-0 at No. 4) all held commanding leads when the match ended.

"That was a tough travel weekend for the women," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop after the Lions returned from a match at Western Kentucky the day before. "They just stayed focused and was very businesslike."

The North Alabama women will host Austin Peay on March 20. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the UNA Varsity Tennis Courts.
