LIBERTY SWEEPS UNA TENNIS IN ASUN PLAY

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama men's and women's tennis teams each fell to visiting Liberty in ASUN tennis action on Sunday. The women's team lost a 4-0 rain-shortened decision while the UNA lost 7-0.
 
In the early match, Liberty's women (9-6 overall, 2-1 ASUN) won the doubles point and quickly clinched the match with three wins in singles play. The remaining matches were halted because of rain.
 
The Flames won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and 6-3 at the No. 3 position. Payton Andrews and Elise Sickle were tied 5-5 at No. 2 when play was stopped.
 
In singles play, Liberty won at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 4 in straight sets. Sickle won her opening set at No. 6 singles and Nina Linke held a 4-3 edge in the second set when the match ended.
 
With the loss, the UNA women fall to 5-10 overall and 0-2 in ASUN play. The Lions will play at Kennesaw State on Saturday. Match time is set for 9 a.m. on the KSU campus in Kennesaw, Ga.
 
The men's match resumed in the afternoon following the rains in the Florence area. Liberty took control with three wins in doubles before winning all six singles matches.
 
UNA falls to 1-12 overall and 0-2 in ASUN matches. The UNA men will host Austin Peay at 1 p.m. on Tuesday before returning to ASUN play Saturday at Kennesaw State.
