MIDDLE TENNESSEE DOWNS UNA WOMEN'S TENNIS

MURFREESBORO, Tenn., – Middle Tennessee won a tightly-contested doubles point, then used the momentum to sweep singles play in a 7-0 home win over the University of North Alabama women's tennis team over the weekend. UNA falls to 3-5 on the year with the loss.

The Blue Raiders took the early lead with a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. A 6-4 win at the top spot then clinched the overall point. UNA's Claudia Arroyo and Elise Sickle were leading 5-4 at No. 3 when play was halted.

"We let a chance to take the doubles point get away," said UNA head coach Brice Bishop. "We just were not sharp on big points. I do, however, like the fight we had today."

Middle Tennessee won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.

"I thought we competed well today, but let a few opportunities get away from us," added Bishop. "Middle Tennessee is very good and I thought we played on that level for the most part. Elise and Claudia were very good in doubles. They had match point when the doubles point was clinched."

The North Alabama women will host Belmont on Saturday. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the UNA varsity tennis courts.
