HARDIN, Ky., – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team opened the 2020-21 season with a 7-0 loss to Murray State Thursday at the Kenlake Tennis Center in Hardin, Ky. The Racers (1-0) grabbed the early lead in doubles play, then swept through singles play, including a trio of three-set victories.

UNA held early leads in two of the three-setters before MSU rallied. Sydney Flesch recorded a 6-4 at the top spot to claim an early lead. Murray's Sara Loncarevic, however, finished the set with 6-2 and 6-3 wins.

Nina Linke also won the opening set with a 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles. The Racers' Gabrielle Geolier was able to rally for the 6-3, 6-1 win. Payton Andrews saw her own rally come up short at No. 2 singles. After falling 6-4 in the first set, the sophomore from Seminole, Fla., evened the score with a 7-5 win. Murray State's Stasya Sharapova held on in the final set for the 6-3 win.

Murray State led early after a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, followed by 6-2 victories at the No. 3 and No. 2 spots. Singles wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 2 clinched the match for the home team.

UNA will travel to Montgomery on Jan. 30 to play Alabama State.
