FLORENCE, Ala. -- The University of North Alabama women's soccer team got goals from four different players on the way to a 4-1 win over Western Kentucky in the Lions' 2021 season opener at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex.
UNA got goals in the 20th and 24th minutes to hold a 2-0 lead at intermission. The Lions then pushed it to 3-1 before allowing a WKU goal at the 58:56 mark. UNA then added an insurance goal in the 74th minute.
The win kept UNA's all-time record perfect in home openers at 9-0.
Charlotte Kellett scored UNA's initial goal at the 19:08 mark of an assist from
Grace Lensing.
Chloe Fell made it 2-0 with a goal at the 23:26 mark off a corner kick from
Kate Wiseman.
In the second half,
Alice Bussey scored at 47:34, assisted by Fell, to make it 3-0.
Western Kentucky's lone goal came at the 58:56 mark by Elle Belcher, assisted by Brina Micheels.
The final score of the match came when a corner kick my
Mia Staley veered into the goal to make the final count 4-1.
UNA out-shot WKU eight to seven and North Alabama goal keeper
Payton Yates recorded two saves in 90 minutes in goal.
UNA plays at UAB on February 14.
