UNA WOMEN’S TENNIS RALLIES TO DOWN CHATTANOOGA 4-3

FLORENCE – Trailing 3-1 at home against Chattanooga, the University of North Alabama women's tennis team won three consecutive three-set singles matches to rally for a 4-3 victory Friday at the UNA Varsity Tennis Courts. The win gives UNA a 3-7 record on the season while Chattanooga (7-2) falls for just the second time on the year.

"This was a great win for our program," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. "Chattanooga has an extremely talented and well-coached team. I'm so proud of the effort and physicality we put on the court today."

After winning the doubles point, the Mocs took a 2-0 lead with a win at No. 2 singles. Nina Linke then got UNA its first point with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 4 spot.

Chattanooga went ahead 3-1 with a win at No. 6 to set up the comeback. UNA lost the opening set in each of the final three singles matches before rallying.

Payton Andrews was the first to rally, getting a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory at the top singles position. She trailed 4-2 in the third set.

Megan Humphreys followed with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 3 singles. She rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the third set before posting a 7-4 victory in the tiebreaker to keep the Lions' hopes alive.

With the score tied at 3-3, all attention turned to No. 5 singles. Kalais Going lost the opening set 7-6 (13-11) before tying the match with a 6-3 victory in the second set. A 6-4 win in the final set then clinched the overall win for UNA.

"We played well in doubles and had a chance to win," added Bishop. "We just need to build some confidence, which is what happed when Nina (Linke) got that first point. We just started to build on the momentum."

North Alabama will host Austin Peay on Saturday. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
