LIONS AND REDHAWKS FIGHT TO 1-1 DRAW

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of North Alabama women's soccer team scored its first goal of the season but eventually settled for a 1-1 draw with Miami University (Ohio) in two overtimes in a match hosted by Western Kentucky University.

UNA, now 0-1-2 on the season, took the lead in the match with a goal from Alice Bussey at the 59:11. Kira Schuster assisted on the goal.

Bussey's second career goal snapped a 259-minute scoreless streak by the Lions to open the season.

The Lions held the lead until the 80th minute when Miami's Haley Anspach scored to tie the match at 1-1 at 79:18.

Neither team could put another shot in the goal over the final 11 minutes of regulation or in the two 10-minute overtime periods.

"We had our chances, but so did they," said UNA women's soccer coach Chris Walker. "I felt like we were the better team in the first half and they were in the second half. I thought we had the upper hand in overtime but a draw was a fair result. I think it was nice that we could go on the road and have a good performance."

UNA was out-shot 16-9 by Miami but North Alabama goalkeeper Payton Yates stopped five shots on goal.

The Lions had other scoring opportunities in the first half but shots by Chloe Fell and Bussey hit the crossbar and post, respectively.

UNA will play Kansas State on Sunday in Clarksville.
