UNA WOMEN SIGN TWO LOCAL PREP STANDOUTS

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball teams has added a pair of high school standouts on the opening day of the early national signing period. Deshler's Chloe Siegel and Lawrence County's (Tennessee) Katie Criswell each signed national letters of intent to play for the Lions.
 
"We are excited to add Katie and Chloe to our UNA family," said UNA women's basketball head coach Missy Tiber. "It's always a great day when you can keep the local talent at home."
 
Siegel, a 5-7 guard, helped lead Deshler to a 34-1 record and the AHSAA Class 4A state championship as a junior in 2022. She was a Class 4A Player of the Year finalist after being named to the state championship All-Tournament Team and also earning first team All-State, All-Region and All-Area honors.
 
Siegel set an Alabama high school record that briefly served as the national record with 18 made three-pointers in a game and enters her senior season with 2,027 career points.
 
"Chloe is one of the best three-point shooters I've ever seen," said Tiber. "She's a hard worker and puts in the time to develop her skills. She has a great basketball IQ and has a winner's mentality. No one will out work her or have more of a desire to want to win at the high highest level."
 
Criswell, a 5-11 guard, averaged 10.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game for Lawrence County. She enters her senior season shooting 43 percent from the floor, including 38 percent from three-point range.
 
She helped lead the Wildcats to the 2022 TSSAA AAA East Regional quarter-finals and was a member of the 2021 and 2022 TSSAA 8AAA All-District Team.
 
"Katie is a tremendous athlete who has played multiple positions," added Tiber. "In addition to her versatility, she gets after it on the court. She will provide some mismatch opportunities because of her overall abilities and size."
