FLORENCE – After winning the doubles point, the University of North Alabama women's team won the first three singles matches en route to a 5-2 home win over Bellarmine on Sunday. With the victory UNA improves to 3-15 overall and 1-4 in ASUN Conference play.

Two quick wins in doubles play gave the Lions the early lead. Sydney Flesch and Lee-Taylor Bishop won 6-1 at No. 3 before Payton Andrews and Gabriela Cevallos clinched the point with a 6-3 win at the top spot. Juliette Talieu and Kalais Going were leading 5-3 when their match went unfinished at No. 2.

The Lions won three straight singles matches to win the overall match. Makayla Loubser started singles play off with a pair of 6-0 wins in the No. 6 position. Kalais Going followed her up with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 4 spot. Gabriela Cevallos then secured the match for the Lions with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5 to clinch the match for the Lions.

Bellarmine avoided the shutout with a win at No. 1 singles before Juliette Talieu secured the fifth and final point for UNA in the No. 3 spot with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. The Knights then wrapped up the scoring with a win at No. 2.

UNA will continue conference play with its next match against North Florida on Friday, April 8. Match time is set for 8 a.m. at the UNF Tennis Complex.
