LIONS RALLY TO EARN 1-1 DRAW AT SOUTH ALABAMA

MOBILE, Ala. -- Down 1-0 at the half, the University of North Alabama made adjustments at intermission and dominated the second 45-minute period to earn a 1-1 tie in women's soccer with South Alabama at Hancock Whitney Stadium.

With the draw, North Alabama remains unbeaten at 2-0-1 on the season. South Alabama is also now 2-0-1.

The host Jaguars took the lead with a goal at the 13:45 mark of the first half by Lilly Lowery, assisted off a corner kick.

USA held a 7-2 advantage in shots in the first half.

North Alabama got the equalizer at the 73:25 mark as Kate Wiseman's corner kick found the head of Izzi Gurney in the box, and her deflection into the net made it 1-1. It was the second time this season that the duo have combined for a goal on a corner kick.

UNA had five total shot attempts in the second half but couldn't take the lead.

"It was a tale of two halves," said UNA Head Soccer Coach Chris Walker. "We were the better team in the second half. Our girls worked hard and we adjusted to draw them in to areas that worked to our advantage and we were able to bounce back. It was great to see our team respond and play so hard when they were a goal down, to even the match."

North Alabama goalkeeper Payton Yates recorded three saves for the Lions, despite allowing her first goal of the season in 270 minutes in goal.

The Lions stay in Mobile to face Troy on Sunday at Noon.  The Trojans are 1-2 on the season.
