FLORENCE, Ala. (October 11, 2023) – North Alabama Men's Tennis will stay in-state to compete in their third event of the fall season — the ITA Southern Regionals this weekend in Auburn, Ala.
UNA heads to the campus of Auburn University after competing at the Samford Hidden Duals in Birmingham, Ala. from Sept. 30-Oct. 1. North Alabama left with 16 wins in a weekend slate that saw them compete against the likes of UAB, Jacksonville and Samford. Each competing player for the Lions earned a win, led by freshman Alberto Altur with five wins across singles and doubles matches.
Sophomore Lachlan Brain competed in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. in the same weekend and earned the first win in UNA Tennis program history, defeating Borys Zgola of Florida 6-4, 7-6 (5).
ABOUT THE ITA SOUTHERN REGIONALS
The ITA Southern Regionals will feature six UNA Lions competing in singles and doubles action against players from other schools in the ITA Southern region. The tournament will be five days long, with the tournament beginning with the qualifying rounds in singles on Oct. 12 at 9 a.m.
Birtan Duran, Izan Orgiles, Alberto Altur, Nazar Fedoryshyn and Federico Scotuzzi will begin the competition in the qualifying round, while Lachlan Brain will start his day in the main draw. In doubles, the pairings for UNA will be Orgiles/Fedoryshyn, Duran/Altur and Scotuzzi/Brain.
