This high-profile matchup took place at a newly-opened AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas — home to the Dallas Cowboys. At the time, both UNA and ACU were perennial powers at the NCAA Division II level with the Wildcats ranked No. 3 and the Lions ranked No. 4 in the national polls. UNA's final touchdown in that game came on a 49-yard fumble return by Janoris "Jackrabbit" Jenkins.
8. THE BIG 800: North Alabama played its 800th all-time game last time out against EKU. Over those 800 games, UNA has a 482-302-16 record for a 61.25 winning percentage.
9. MESSING WITH TEXAS: The Lions have had immense success against teams from the state of Texas, owning an 8-4 all-time record against the Lone Star State. This includes four teams, two of which are now members of the UAC — Abilene Christian and Tarleton State. The other two are Texas A&M-Commerce and the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas. TAMUK battled UNA many times in the 1990s, including the 1994 national championships won by UNA. The Lions are 6-0 all-time against the Javelinas.
10. 75TH SEASON OF UNA FOOTBALL: The 2023 season marks the 75th year of North Alabama Football. UNA owns claim to 21 NCAA playoff appearances, 17 conference championships and three national championships. This season marks UNA's sixth at the FCS level and just the second as a full-fledged member. This year also marks a new era as the Lions are charter members of the newly-formed UAC.
