NOTES
International Lions: With the UNA men's golf team traveling to Nassau, Bahamas for the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Men's Invitational, it will serve as the first match the Lions have played on foreign soil since Oct. 26-27, 2015. In 2015, the Lions traveled to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico to play in the University of Illinois Springfield Puerto Rico Invitational, where the Lions earned a second place team finish.
MartinFed Invitational Recap: The University of North Alabama men's golf team earned a team victory at the inaugural MartinFed Invitational. UNA had two teams in the tournament and had four golfers place in the tournament's top ten between the two squads.
Henry Frizzell and
Eric Luo led the "A" team to a first place finish, while
Corey Maher and
John Logan powered the "B" team to a fourth place finish out of 11 teams. The MartinFed Invitational took place at Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club, where the Lions have taken home nine tournament victories in program history.
Phillips Gets His First: The team victory at the MartinFed Invitational serves as the first North Alabama victory under Schmitz Family Men's Golf Head Coach Austin Phillips. Phillips helped the Lions earn the victory in just his fourth tournament at the helm. Prior to the victory, Phillips led the men's golf team to a third place finish at the Iowa Fall Classic, trailing just Power Five programs Iowa and Iowa State.
Frizzell Shines at Turtle Point: North Alabama senior
Henry Frizzell led all North Alabama golfers in what would become the first team victory of the season in the MartinFed Invitational. Frizzell placed fourth with a 10-under par, 206 performance. Both the 206 total and fourth place finish are the best of Frizzell's career with the Lions, the previous best coming in a ninth place finish in the 2023 Gulf Coast Collegiate last spring.
The Boys of Fall: The University of North Alabama men's golf team has wrapped up four of the five tournaments scheduled for the fall 2023 season, as the Lions will close out the fall slate in Nassau.
