NASSAU, Bahamas (October 21, 2023) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team closed out the second round of the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Men's Invitational at Ocean Club in third place on Saturday with one round remaining in the tournament. Behind a big round from Texas Permian Basin transfer Sebastian Bengtsson, the Lions tied for the best team round of the day.


The Lions closed the second round with an 11-under-par 277 second round, bringing the two-round total to 558. Leader Santa Clara clocked out of round two with a 550 while second place North Texas is just three strokes ahead of UNA with a 555. The tournament-best second round jumped the Lions two spots on the leaderboard, as UNA now sits ahead of Saint Mary's, Southern Illinois, Jacksonville State, Georgia State, Wofford, Wichita State and the Santa Clara "B" team entering day two. 
The Lions remain as one of the better teams on par fives, turning in a 20 under par score on holes with a par five. UNA trails just tournament leader and host Santa Clara (-26) in that statistic. North Alabama also led the MartinFed Invitational with a 29-under par score on holes with the same par total.


Bengtsson turned in the best second round of any golfer in the tournament with his five-under-par 67 round, bringing his total to 138 and jumping him sixteen spots, — tying him for fifth place. Bengtsson leads all individuals after two rounds with 13 birdies. Sophomore Eric Luo moved up five spots with a 69, tying him for 10th place with a score of 139. Henry Frizzell enters the final frame tied for 19th after closing out the first two rounds with a 141. Niko Nebout carded a second round 69 to jump him 10 spots on the leaderboard with a 143 tied for 27th. Freshman Andrew Ferworn tied for 31st with an even 144 after two rounds, while sophomore Chase Kaiser tied for 41st place with a 147 while participating in the tournament as an individual.

Play concludes in the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Men's Invitational Sunday, Oct. 22 with the third and final round.
