Top Things To Know: North Alabama at Florida State

Lions travel to first Power Five opponent since 1959 on Saturday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 16, 2023) – The University of North Alabama will take its traditional brand to the national stage this weekend, as the Lions travel to College Football Playoff contender Florida State on Saturday, Nov. 18.

Whether fans are making the trip to Tallahassee, watching on national television or listening to the local broadcast on WLX radio, below are the top things to know.

1. KICKOFF: Kickoff is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET from Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. For fans watching or listening in the Shoals, kickoff is at 5:40 p.m. CT.

2. TICKETS: Tickets remain available for Saturday's game through Florida State's ticket office, starting at $25 for adults and $15 for youth. The ticket office is located to the right of Gate B on the west side of Doak Campbell Stadium. For more information, call 888-378-6653 or click here for online purchases.

3. PARKING AND STADIUM INFO: There are a number of parking areas around campus, both general parking and paid parking. Click here to access the game day portal, which includes the parking map, FAQs and the digital gameday program.

4. TAILGATE WITH THE LIONS: UNA will be hosting an alumni and friends pre-game tailgate three hours prior to kickoff. Tailgating is located on the northeast side of Doak Campbell Stadium between Heritage Fountain and Gate K. The UNA tailgate is located in Tents 28 & 29. For more information and for registration, click here.

5. CATCH THE LIONS ON THE RADIO: "Voice of the Lions" Benjamin Ray and color analyst Bryan Neece will be in the booth this Saturday, while former UNA quarterback Jacob Tucker will report from the sidelines. UNA's football game day broadcasts will begin one hour before kickoff with the "Countdown to Kickoff" show. Lion fans can catch all the action on WLX Radio — 98.3 FM and 103.5 FM in the Shoals or worldwide on the WLX App. Fans can also access the broadcast at this link.

6. WATCH ON THE CW: Saturday's game will be part of an ACC doubleheader on The CW, as the Lions and Seminoles will follow Virginia vs. Duke with a 6:30 p.m. broadcast start time. The CW is available on various streaming platforms nation-wide and can be viewed locally on WHDF Channel 15.1 in the Huntsville-Decatur-Florence and Birmingham markets. Tom Werme, James Bates and Trevor Scales will have the call. For more information, click here.

7. LIVE STATS: Florida State will provide live stats of Saturday's game via StatBroadcast.

8. FIRST MEETING: Saturday's game will mark the first all-time meeting between UNA and No. 4 Florida State. Saturday will also mark UNA's first Power Five opponent since traveling to Vanderbilt all the way back in 1959. However, this will not be UNA's first time facing an FBS team ranked in the top 10, as the Lions made the trip to No. 8 BYU back on Nov. 21, 2020.

9. THE LIONS ON TV: This weekend, UNA will play on national television for the second time this season. The first TV appearance came all the way back in August during Week 0 for the FCS Kickoff, where UNA fell 17-7 to nationally-ranked Mercer on ESPN and ESPNU. UNA has an all-time record of 32-20 in televised games.

10. BIG STAGE: Saturday's game will be played at Doak Campbell Stadium, which has a reported capacity of 79,560. This will be the second-largest venue UNA has ever played in, with the first being Cowboys Stadium back in 2011 at 80,000.

11. LARGE CROWDS: Florida State ranks second in the ACC and 15th in the nation in FBS attendance with an average of 78,541 fans per game. The current highest-attended UNA game in school history — a 2011 neutral site meeting against Abilene Christian in Cowboys Stadium — brought 24,837 fans. This game was also the first and only other time UNA played a game on The CW (WHDF).

12. GRAND CLOSINGS: For the second straight season and for the third time in four years, UNA will close the regular season at an FBS opponent. UNA finished last season's campaign at Memphis, while closing the 2020 season at BYU.

13. NO CUPCAKES: North Alabama has played one of the toughest schedules in all of FCS football, as six of the 11 opponents on the schedule are currently ranked in one of the major polls, including No. 16 Chattanooga who UNA beat earlier this season. Three additional teams have received or are currently receiving votes in one of the major FCS polls. This leaves only two unranked teams — Tennessee Tech and Utah Tech — both of which UNA defeated.

14. RECORD WATCH FOR KENEBREW: Redshirt senior wide receiver Takairee Kenebrew is tied with Dre Hall on the career receiving touchdowns list at UNA with 25 touchdowns. Kenebrew can break that record and sit atop the list by himself on Saturday with a touchdown. With nine touchdowns this season, Kenebrew can also tie Hall and Ed Gant for the single-season touchdown record (10) with one more on Saturday.

15. 75TH SEASON OF UNA FOOTBALL: The 2023 season marks the 75th year of North Alabama Football. UNA has an all-time record of 483-305-16 and owns claim to 21 NCAA playoff appearances, 17 conference championships and three national championships. This season marks UNA's sixth at the FCS level and just the second as a full-fledged member. This year also marks a new era as the Lions are charter members of the newly-formed United Athletic Conference.
