FLORENCE, Ala. –
Kyle Machado drove in four runs and
Andrew Knight added a solo shot, but North Alabama came out on the short end of a 14-7 decision to 19
th ranked FGCU at Mike Lane Field.
Both teams scored early and the Eagles led 8-6 after four innings. FGCU then added three runs in the fifth and three in the ninth to distance itself from the Lions.
UNA is now 5-16 overall and 0-5 in ASUN play. FGCU is 20-4 overall and 4-1 in the ASUN.
In the third inning, Machado was hit by pitch and Knight followed with a double. Both runners scored on a two-run
Jackson Ferrigno double.
In the fourth, UNA scored four runs as
Gehrig Frei reached on a fielder's choice and
Jonathan Lane singled. Machado then hit a three-run homer, followed by a solo shot from Knight.
The Lions' final run came in the sixth as
Ethan Walker walked and scored on a Machado RBI-double.
Jacob James (1-1) took the loss for UNA, allowing eight runs on six hits over four innings.
The Lions and Eagles play the final game of the series Sunday at noon.
