DELAND, Fla. -- North Alabama held an early lead for the second straight game but fell 9-7 to Stetson in the final game of an ASUN Conference baseball series.
The Lions took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, were tied 4-4 after four innings and trailed 9-5 in the ninth before scoring two runs.
With the loss, North Alabama is now 5-21 overall and 0-9 in ASUN Conference play. Stetson improved to 18-11 overall and 7-2 in the ASUN.
In the first inning,
Gehrig Frei and
Jonathan Lane singled and
Kyle Machado was hit by pitch to load the bases. An
Andrew Knight doubled drove in two runs and two more scored on a
Jackson Ferrigno double to make it 4-0.
Stetson got two runs in the second and tied the game with two in the fourth.
The Hatters went on top with a three-run fifth inning.
UNA got a run back in the sixth on a solo home run by Ferrigno but Stetson scored in the bottom of the frame to make it 8-5.
After Stetson scored another run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 9-5, UNA tried to rally in the ninth.
Ethan Walker drew a walk and Lane singled, then
Andrew Knight delivered a two-out single to drive in Walker. Ferrigno then singled in Lane to make it 9-7 before the Hatters could stop the threat.
Raleigh Claunch took the loss for UNA, allowing two runs on one hit in his two-thirds of an inning of relief work.
North Alabama hosts Samford on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. and Lipscomb for a three-game conference series beginning Thursday.
