UNA ANNOUNCES THE RESIGNATION OF HEAD MEN'S GOLF COACH LUKE CALCATERA

FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of North Alabama has announced that Luke Calcatera has resigned as the school's head men's golf coach to accept the same position at the University of North Texas.

Hired in 2022, Calcatera delivered UNA's best NCAA Division I golf season to date. UNA won three golf tournaments, finished second three more times, and added one third-place result during the 2022-23 golf season. The team also produced two individual tournament winners in 2022-23 and finished with its highest GolfStat rating in its Division I history. UNA also secured its first victory over a top 20 opponent last season.

"Coach Calcatera is a very talented, driven, and personable head coach," said UNA director of athletics Dr. Josh Looney. "He made an immediate impact at UNA, quickly elevating our program on and off the course at the Division I level. We wish Luke and his family well as they return to his home state and he leads North Texas into its new era in the American Athletic Conference."

Off the course, the 2022-23 UNA men's golf team posted a program-best 3.74 team GPA during the Spring 2023 semester. The team also made an impact in the Shoals community. HelperHelper, which tracks and verifies community service for athletics departments throughout the country, recently recognized UNA as its top program in Division I men's golf.

"I want to thank Dr. Kitts and Dr. Looney for the opportunity they have given me at North Alabama," says Calcatera. "I loved my time in Florence and our incredible athletic staff and coaches. Thank you to my student-athletes for all of their hard work and I believe the program is in a great position moving forward."

Prior to UNA, Calcatera led Arkansas Tech University to 10 straight NCAA D-II Regional appearances, made six trips to the NCAA Championship Tournament, sent five teams to NCAA finals match play, and won the 2021 NCAA D-II Men's Golf National Championship.

The Keller, Texas native was the 2021 D-II National Coach of the Year, a 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup Head Coach Finalist, a six-time Great American Conference Coach of the Year, and three-time Central Region Coach of the Year.

A national search for UNA's next head men's golf coach has already begun.
