UNA soccer falls to Lipscomb in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (September 28, 2023)The Lipscomb Bisons used a pair of goals in each half to defeat The University of North Alabama soccer team 4-0 in Nashville on Thursday.

The Bisons — who remain atop the ASUN Conference with a perfect 5-0 record in league play — opened up the scoring on a penalty kick from Bella Carapazza in the 30th minute. This is the second penalty kick the Lions have allowed this season, the first coming against Southern Illinois on Sept. 7.

By way of a Kiara Pralle assist, Marcella Cash added to the Lipscomb lead just four minutes later on a shot that found its way to the bottom left corner of the net. Lipscomb would take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

The Bisons bolstered their lead in the 51st minute on a goal scored by defender Lucy Ream assisted by forward Kelli Beiler. Pralle and Carapazza would both tally their second points on the night on the final Lipscomb goal, with Pralle finding the back of the net on a Carrapazza pass.

Despite the loss, UNA put 12 shots on the scoreboard and five on target. The Lions also limited Lipscomb to just two corners on the match, owning a 80-22 advantage over opponents in corners this season.

This is the first match in 347 days that the UNA soccer team has lost by more than one goal, dating back to Oct. 16, 2022 when the Lions fell to Central Arkansas 3-1 in Conway, Ark. The Lions boasted a 6-4-3 record across 13 games in that span.

Defender Briana Eads, who led the team with three shots alongside Giada Aldini, subbed out of the match in the 69th minute, the first time she has made a trip to the sideline so far this season. Eads played just over 1,148 consecutive minutes in the field to start the season. Goalkeeper Adriana Wright, who had eight saves on the day, is the only player to have played every minute of all 13 matches so far this season.

North Alabama falls to 6-4-3 (2-2-1 ASUN) on the season, while the Bisons improve to 9-4-0 (5-0-0 ASUN).

The Lions continue the road trip at Austin Peay on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. in Clarksville, Tenn.
