BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (January 27, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team continues its season-opening road trip this weekend, traveling to Birmingham for a dual against Samford on Sunday afternoon.
UNA won its opening dual of the season Friday with a 4-3 road victory over Chattanooga. Winning the doubles point, UNA had to rally after falling behind in singles' competition. Sophomore Stanislava Bobrovnikova took the deciding match in a tie-breaking victory, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3). The Lions look for a 2-0 start in season two under UNA Director of Tennis Olaya Garrido-Rivas.
The dual will take place at Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion with first serve at 3 p.m. Live video will be provided here and final results will be posted on RoarLions.com

SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama enters the dual with a 1-0 record after defeating Chattanooga in the season opener. Bobrovnikova, senior Marta Torres and freshman Ada Karabacak all had two victories on the day, with a singles and doubles win to open the season.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: Samford comes into the matchup with an 0-1 record. In their last outing, the Bulldogs were defeated by Mississippi State 5-2 in the first dual of the season. David Vest is in his 14th season as the head coach for Samford.
SERIES HISTORY: The Bulldogs defeated the Lions, 6-1, the last time these two teams met in dual play on February 5, 2023 in Birmingham. UNA is currently 0-2 against Samford — both meetings taking place in Birmingham.
FALL RECAP: UNA Women's Tennis ended the fall portion of the season with 78 wins in four outings. This includes 17 wins in the final meet at Southern Miss, led by Karabacak with six wins and a singles flight victory. She and Kalais Going won their doubles flight, as well.
