JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (December 30, 2024) – University of North Alabama senior Charity Gallegos was announced as the Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week by the league office Monday afternoon.

Gallegos shined in North Alabama's final non-conference matchup against Bethel, tallying a season-high in points with a near-triple double in an 84-54 win over the Wildcats this past Saturday.

Gallegos led North Alabama in scoring with 25 points — the highest by a Lion so far this season. Gallegos finished an efficient 10-14 from the floor and 3-4 from three, and she tallied a game-high seven assists, seven rebounds and two steals.

The player and newcomer honors mark the first awards for a UNA player this season. It also is the first time in the Division I era that a women's basketball player has won both awards in the same week.

Gallegos earns the program's 11th ASUN Player of the Week honor and 10th all-time Newcomer of the Week honor since the move to Division I in 2018. Prior to today, Alexis Callins earned UNA's most recent ASUN Player of the Week honor on Nov. 27, 2023. Allice Craig Cruce was the most recent ASUN Newcomer of the Week from UNA on Jan. 16, 2024.

Gallegos and the Lions are back in action Thursday, Jan. 2 at Bellarmine to begin ASUN play. First tip from Louisville is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT.
