FLORENCE, Ala. (February 15, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team were victorious in their second home dual of the season, defeating the Troy Trojans 5-2 from the UNA Tennis Complex in Florence, Ala.
 

UNA won their third dual of the year, moving to 3-2 on the year while Troy drops their first dual of the season at 4-1. This also marks UNA's first win over Troy since 1990 when both teams were members of NCAA Division II.
 

The doubles point came down to the wire, as UNA won two of three matches. Kalais Going and Ada Karabacak started with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, but Troy tied it in the top flight. The deciding flight went into a tiebreaker, as Anoek Prujimboom and Emma Ansorge pulled out a thrilling 7-5 win over Leena Metwally and Valeriia Avdeeva.
 

With the doubles point and momentum, UNA went on to win four of six singles matches. This run started with an impressive win by Stanislava Bobrovnikova at No. 1 singles, handling Kristina Kikaras by a 6-4, 6-1 final.
 

The other five sets were all tight, but UNA did enough to defend home court. Troy got its first point to make it 2-1 with a win in Flight No. 6, but UNA extended the lead with a three-set win by Marta Torres at the No. 4 spot — 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Troy pulled back within one, but wins by Going at No. 4 singles and Ansorge at the No. 2 spot sealed the win for UNA. Ansorge's match closed an exciting night, as she defeated Hagar Ramadan in a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 victory.
 

The Lions head to Mississippi on Feb. 24 for a double-header against Jackson State and Alcorn State. The first dual against Jackson State will begin at 11 AM while first serve against Alcorn State is scheduled for 3 PM.
