COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (March 19, 2024) – Senior outfielder
Dominick McIntyre plated four runs as the University of North Alabama baseball team took down Tennessee Tech 8-4 on Tuesday in Cookeville, Tenn. McIntyre's 3-for-4 performance alongside three UNA home runs powered the Lions
past the Golden Eagles in the midweek contest.
The Lions improve to 8-12 on the season, while the Golden Eagles fall to 12-9.
Jonathan Lane and Gehrig Frei launched back-to-back home runs in the top of the first inning, giving UNA the first and only lead of the game. Kyle Machado doubled to left field and came around to score on McIntyre's first hit of the game, a single to left, to put the Lions up 3-0 after the first inning.
The Golden Eagles added a run in the second to cut the North Alabama lead to two.
McIntyre wasted no time answering, launching his second home run of the season over the right field fence in his next plate appearance. Tennessee Tech notched a pair of runs in the third, making the score 4-3 heading into the fourth.
John Allen Stogner tossed three frames and struck out three batters while allowing three runs in his first career win as a Lion. Josh Bowerman entered the game in the fourth and tossed two scoreless frames.
Machado picked up an RBI single in the fifth, bringing home Frei just two batters before scoring on a McIntyre sacrifice fly.
Carson Howard entered the game in the sixth with the tying run at the plate and two outs before forcing Troy Baunsgard to ground out to third base.
McIntyre doubled home another runner in the fourth before coming around to score on a Levi Jensen sacrifice bunt, giving the Lions an 8-3 edge after seven innings. TTU scored a run in the eighth, but Howard finished his outing pitching 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits and one run.
Frei and McIntyre each finished their day with three hits, a double and a home run. Lane and Machado also picked up two hits apiece.
