Women’s Tennis beats Alabama State for third-straight win, 5-2

Lions improve to 7-0 in home duals

FLORENCE, Ala. (March 31, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team completed a perfect 3-0 week Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win over Alabama State from the UNA Tennis Complex.

The Lions finished the three-win week two Atlantic Sun Conference duals against EKU and Queens. UNA also defeated both the Colonels and Royals by a 5-2 score in the first Atlantic Sun Conference home matches of the season. North Alabama ends the week with a 12-6 record with an improved 2-4 ASUN record, while remaining undefeated in home duals at 7-0.

UNA cruised through doubles play with victories from flights one and three before four wins in singles confirmed the perfect week in home play. Six different Lions won across singles and doubles play, with sophomore Stanislava Bobrovnikova and freshman Emma Ansorge victorious in both singles and doubles.

Seniors Kalais Going and Marta Torres won in doubles with Bobrovnikova and Ansorge, and freshman Marta Serra Carles picked up her second-straight win in as many days. Freshman Ada Karabacak also won her fourth-flight singles match to complete the afternoon.

Going and Bobrovnikova opened the day with their fourth-straight doubles win with a 6-1 win over Lizaveta Demchenko and Ena Arnautovic. Torres and Ansorge also won 6-1 from the third flight to give UNA a point lead heading into singles. Junior Anoek Pruijmboom and Karabacak remain unbeaten in doubles after their match went unfinished with a 5-1 lead.

The Lions claimed the first win thanks to Bobrovnikova, who beat Lizaveta Demchenko 6-3, 6-0 from the top flight. Serra Carles and Karabacak clinched the team win with victories from the sixth and fourth flight, respectively. Serra Carles defeated Ena Arnautovic, 6-2, 6-3, for her fourth singles win, and Karabacak won her third-straight singles match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Bea Acena.

Ansorge's fifth-straight win was the final victory for the Lions, triumphing over Sahra Bouchaala 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 from flight two. Alabama State claimed courts three and five to round out the action from Florence.

The Lions are set for a second-straight three-dual week against ASUN opponents Lipscomb and Central Arkansas and non-conference foe Western Kentucky. North Alabama begins the week at Lipscomb April 3, with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m.
