Lions celebrate Senior Day with 7-0 sweep over Bellarmine

UNA caps regular season with shutout win at home

Box Score FLORENCE, Ala. (April 14, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day from the UNA Tennis Complex with a 7-0 win over Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions ended the regular season in style, sweeping the Knights to finish 15-8 on the season and 8-1 in home duals. Bellarmine competed with only four players due to injuries, but UNA still took all five victories in doubles and singles play.

Prior to the dual, seniors Kalais Going and Marta Torres were honored during Senior Day festivities. The two competed for the final time in a UNA uniform, capping their Lion careers with three total wins on the day. Going won both her doubles and singles match, while Torres was victorious in her singles contest from flight four.

Sophomore Stanislava Bobrovnikova picked up two wins in singles and doubles action, and freshman Emma Ansorge capped an impressive first season with her 14th singles win – a Division I program record. Sophomore Valeria San Miguel and freshman Marta Serra Carles rounded out the UNA wins with two walkover victories.

The dual began with two played doubles matches, with Bobrovnikova and Going taking the doubles point from flight one. They defeated Marika Caruk and Liann Grosso from flight one, 6-2, to finish the season with 10 pair wins. Ansorge and Torres's doubles match went unfinished from flight two.

Torres would get to complete her singles match, winning her 12th singles contest in a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bellarmine's Liann Grosso. Ansorge grabbed a win shortly after in a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Yeva Kramarova from court two.

Going set a new career high in season singles wins, defeating Lillie Willis, 6-3, 6-1, for her 11th singles victory. Bobrovnikova completed the sweep with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Marika Caruk from the top flight.

The Lions head into the offseason after year two under UNA Director of Tennis Olaya Garrido-Rivas. UNA finishes the 2024 campaign with a Division I single-season school record 15 wins, while going 4-6 in ASUN play. The 15 wins also marks an eight-win turnaround for the program.
