Andrew Knight tallied a pair of doubles and two RBIs in the contest.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 17-35-1 (9-19-1 ASUN) looking ahead to Saturday's regular season finale. Austin Peay improves to 35-18 and remains in first place with a 20-9 record in ASUN Conference play.
With two runners on base in the third, Knight roped his second double of the game to the right-center field gap to bring home both runners and cut into the APSU lead. The Lions tallied six hits and five walks on Friday, but were unable to overcome the explosive Governor offense.
Austin Peay opened up the scoring for the second game in a row after a first inning RBI single to left field.
The Lions responded in the top of the second inning following a pair of doubles from Knight and
Jackson Ferrigno to tie the game at 1-1. Austin Peay answered in the home half of the inning with five runs, including two homers to push the lead out to 6-1.
Jonathan Lane sparked the Lions in the third inning with a leadoff double before Gehrid Frei reached on a walk. Knight then tucked a double into the gap to bring home both runners. A pair of strikeouts ended the UNA surge before the Governors tacked on two runs across the next two innings.
Entering the game with two runners on and nobody out,
Justin Battle sat down the first three batters he saw in the fifth before pitching three more scoreless frames. Battle ended his night with 4.0 innings, allowing just one baserunner and striking out five Austin Peay batters.
Lane and Knight each tallied multi-hit afternoons. Knight now leads the team with 13 doubles on the season through 53 games.
