FLORENCE, Ala. (June 25, 2024) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team placed three student-athletes earn College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors on Tuesday, including junior
Chase Kaiser and sophomores
Sebastian Bengtsson and
Eric Luo.
Kaiser, Bengtsson and Luo become the first CSC Academic All-District honorees from UNA Men's Golf since 2012 when Jake Greer earned the honor and went on to become a second team CoSIDA Academic All-American. Greer will enter the UNA Athletic Hall of Fame in 2024.
Luo also made 11 appearances for the Lions, starting hot four straight performances under par in four fall tournaments. He had two fifth-place finishes in the fall, including a nine-under-par 207 to finish fifth at the MartinFed Invitational at Turtle Point to help UNA win the home tournament. In the Spring, Luo went on to finish sixth with a four-under at the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate. He also sat fifth heading into the final round of the ASUN Championship before finishing 17th.
Luo's premiere performance came on the national stage at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship hosted at PGA site TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. All three rounds were televised nationally on the Golf Channel, where Luo shined and finished second place of 22 golfers. He was one stroke back of Michigan's Yuqi Liu for the win after shooting a bogey-free low-round of 69 on the final day.
Bengtsson had 11 appearances as a sophomore and shot below par in four of those events. His best performance came at the Savannah Intercollegiate in February, as he and teammate
John Logan won the tournament with a seven-under-par 209 score. Bengtsson had 11 birdies and an eagle in that tournament. He also shot a season-low eight-under at the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Men's Invitational in Nassau, Paradise Island, Bahamas and opened the season with a top-five finish at the ANF Iowa Fall Classic with a two-under finish.
Kaiser played in eight tournaments this past season, including a season-low one-under-par finish at the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Men's Invitational. He overcame a five-over round on opening day to finish two-under and four-under the final two rounds. He also had a two-over par finish at the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate to finish 33rd of 100 golfers.
