NASHVILLE, Tenn. (September 29, 2024) – The University of North Alabama soccer team could not get its offense started in a 3-0 loss to Lipscomb University on Sunday in Nashville. Junior goalkeeper Allanah Blye recorded 11 saves in the game, which shatters her previous season-high of five.
The first 45 minutes were quiet for UNA (3-7) and Lipscomb (6-3-2) as the two sides ended the first half scoreless. Lipscomb put up 11 shots in the first half with seven corner kicks, but the North Alabama defense held strong. Blye had her second game in a row of four first half saves which thwarted the Bison offense in the first half.
After the break, the defense started to give way as Lipscomb's sophomore midfielder Hailey Johnson had a kick that barely touched the line for the first goal. Blye got a hand on this ball, in what originally looked like another miraculous save, but the shot was ruled a goal as it inched over the line.
Blye had another great save in the 73rd minute before a claimed UNA handball led to a LU penalty kick. Another Lispcomb sophomore midfielder in Bella Carapazza netted the PK to push the score to 2-0. The Bisons would add one more goal in the 86th minute to seal the game.
Blye came into this road matchup with 25 total saves for the season. She walks away with 11 more saves for the season with seven in the second half. The seven saves are the most in any half this season for Blye and more than any full game from this season.
The Lions offense could not get started with Lipscomb keeping pressure on the goal for the majority of the game. UNA had two shots, one from junior forward Olivia Heinert and one from sophomore midfielder Giada Aldini. Heinert's shot was on the only on target.
North Alabama was held without a corner kick for the first time since 2022 against Liberty. Lipscomb had 30 shots, the most against UNA since 2021.
Looking ahead, North Alabama brings Bellarmine to the Florence Sportsplex on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. The Lions get a nice home stretch as their next four games are all at home, stretching over a 10-day span until Oct. 13 against North Florida.
