Women’s Tennis set for season opener at No. 12 Auburn

Lions to face ranked Tigers in first all-time meeting

AUBURN, Ala. (January 17, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team begins its 2025 championship season Saturday afternoon, taking on No. 12 Auburn on the road in Auburn, Ala.

The Lions are set to begin with a sizable test in their season debut, taking on one of the top tennis programs in the Southeastern Conference and the NCAA. The Tigers are ranked 12th in the ITA Division I National Rankings, which provides North Alabama with an opening challenge. The Lions enter 2025 with high expectations.

UNA finished the 2024 season just missing out on an ASUN Tournament appearance but look to take the next steps after a Division I program record 15 wins last season.

The dual serves as the lone outing in the month of January. The full 2025 schedule is set to be released at a later date, including more non-conference matches in February.

The match will take place at the Yarbrough Tennis Center with first serve scheduled at noon. Live stats will be provided for the match courtesy of StatBroadcast, and fans can also watch the action live via streaming provided by Auburn Athletics.

Full results and a recap will be posted on RoarLions.com following the action, but fans can also follow along on the UNA Tennis social media pages.

NOTES

FALL 2024 RECAP:
North Alabama Women's Tennis capped the 2024 fall season with 70 wins, using the experience to prep for the championship season. For the opening Belmont/Lipscomb Invitational in September, UNA took home 18 wins in Nashville, Tenn. The ITA Regionals and MTSU Hidden Duals followed in October, securing 13 wins at the ITA tournament and team-high 22 wins in Tennessee. The Chattanooga Invitational concluded the fall season in November, taking 17 wins in the fall finale.

SCOUTING THE LIONS:
North Alabama begins the year with a test in the ranked Tigers, taking on an SEC opponent for the second time in three seasons. UNA Director of Tennis Olaya Garrido-Rivas leads the Lions with four returners for 2025, also bringing in four transfer and one freshman for the upcoming season. Top-flight junior Stanislava Bobrovnikova returns for UNA, along with dynamic doubles duo Anoek Pruijmboom and Ada Karabacak and 2024 ASUN All-Freshman Team selection Emma Ansorge. Transfers Mathilde Delaney, Lena Karlovcan, Senem Ocal and Eeva Ristola look to make instant impacts in their first year, with the four bringing a combined 128 career wins from singles and doubles play.

SCOUTING AUBURN: The No. 12 Tigers begin their season with a home doubleheader, first taking on the Lions before concluding against UAB. Auburn looks to be competitive in the SEC this season, as the Tigers were voted fifth in the 2025 SEC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The team went 17-11 during the 2024 Spring season, capping the year with second-round appearances in both the SEC Championships and NCAA Championships. Auburn is led by first-year head coach Jordan Szabo.
