TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (November 1, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team concluded its fall season Saturday with eight wins at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Four Lions competed on the campus of Alabama, ending the fall campaign with solid results. Juniors Emma Ansorge and Louise Booker, alongside freshmen Farah Asaad and Sammie Schouten, represented UNA and earned six singles wins and two doubles victories.
Asaad led North Alabama with four total wins, earning two wins each in singles and doubles. Booker tallied three wins, including two doubles victories with Asaad on the weekend. Ansorge earned two wins in singles play, and Schouten left Tuscaloosa with a singles victory.
Day one saw the Lions excel in singles play, taking five of eight matches. Ansorge opened with a 6-2, 6-4 win over South Alabama's Cristina Tcanichev, followed by Booker rallying for a 6-7(5), 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Niyati Kukreti of ETSU. Asaad concluded round one of singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Georgia State's Mia Petrovic.
Ansorge secured the first win in singles round two with a retirement win over Mississippi State's Emma Cohen. Ansorge came back to lead 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 before her opponent retired. Asaad won her second singles in a 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 victory over South Alabama's Kenza El Kalili.
Day two resulted in two doubles wins followed by a singles win. Booker and Asaad won both doubles bouts, starting with a 6-2 triumph over Alcorn State's Katherine Grados and Amelia Tatafu. They followed with a 6-3 victory over Troy's Veena Mariam Nazar and Alexia Zarate Valdez.
Schouten ended the weekend with the final UNA win, rallying to defeat South Alabama's Jana Rovira in singles, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
North Alabama now sets its sights on the Spring 2026 campaign — finishing the fall with 64 wins.
UNA Director of Tennis Olaya Garrido-Rivas looks to lead the Lions to another successful campaign after securing a Division-I program record 19 wins and an Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Final appearance in Spring 2025. North Alabama also earned the program's first UTR Sports NIT Tournament victory in postseason play.
