Men’s Basketball welcomes ETSU for non-conference showdown

Lions to host Buccaneers for first all-time meeting

FLORENCE, Ala. (November 14, 2025) – CB&S Bank Arena will host a marquee mid-major matchup between two of the top teams from the Atlantic Sun Conference and Southern Conference, as the University of North Alabama men's basketball team welcomes East Tennessee State on Saturday at 2 p.m.

This will be the first of two games in the ASUN-SoCon scheduling alliance this season. UNA travels to Chattanooga next Saturday, while ETSU will host Central Arkansas at the end of the month.

The game will air on ESPN+ with AJ Good, Matt Daniels and sideline reporter Chase Glover on the call. The game will not have a radio stream, as Roar Lions Productions will be covering UNA's football game at Tarleton State.

Tickets are available by calling 256-765-5466 (LION) or by visiting this link.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the game, as parking is limited due to ongoing construction. As such, the lot near the Hal Self Athletic Annex will be unavailable. Violators will be towed if parked in the construction zone.

NOTES
LAST TIME OUT: The Lions hosted an overtime thriller against Southland Conference contender Northwestern State on Tuesday, coming out on top by an 87-83 final inside CB&S Bank Arena. Redshirt Corneilous Williams had a career-high 28 points and 16 rebounds to lead the way, while junior Tank Washington had the game-winning block with less than two seconds left to retain a two-point lead.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: UNA has a 2-1 record with a season-opening loss to Mississippi State and wins over Lane College and Northwestern State. The Lions have four players averaging double-figures with Williams leading the way at 19.3 points per game and 13.7 rebounds per game — which ranks second and first in the ASUN, respectively. Williams also ranks second in the league with seven blocks over three games. Sophomore guard Kevin de Kovachich is averaging 15.3 PPG, while junior Canin Jefferson and senior Donte Bacchus are both around 12.0 PPG.

SCOUTING THE BUCCANEERS: ETSU also enters with a 2-1 record with a 102-50 win over Converse, a 67-63 road loss at Presbyterian and a 75-63 home win over Northern Kentucky on Wednesday in Freedom Hall. The Bucs are averaging 80.3 PPG with only 60.3 PPG allowed over the three games. Brian Taylor II and Cam Morris III are turning into quite the veteran tandem, combining for 42 points in the NKU win and averaging roughly 15.0 PPG apiece. Redshirt senior Allen Strothers enters his fifth season as a guard in the program and is averaging 24.7 minutes per game.

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the first all-time meeting between UNA and ETSU. The Lions currently do not have a winning record against a SoCon school all-time, including a 14-16 record against Samford and a 7-17 record against Chattanooga. The Lions also have one-off losses to Wofford, VMI, UNCG and Western Carolina. ETSU went 1-2 against the ASUN last year with losses to EKU and Jacksonville and a win over Austin Peay.

WINNING IN THE BANK: The Lions have the fifth-longest home winning streak in the nation with 16 straight victories at CB&S Bank Arena. The only teams with a longer streak are Akron (W19), St. Thomas (W19), Duke (W18) and Miami Ohio (W17). UNA's last loss inside CB&S Bank Arena came in the fourth game of 2024 against Samford.

PUJOL CAN PULL WINS: Since Tony Pujol took over at UNA in 2018 — the first season of Division I basketball — the Lions have a 33-4 record at home against non-conference opponents. UNA also went 11-0 against ASUN opponents in The Bank last season.

POST PRESENCE: Williams and Bacchus have been a force in the paint this season, combining for 44 points and 30 rebounds against Northwestern State on Tuesday. UNA had a 38-27 advantage in rebounding, including a 21-6 advantage in offensive boards and a noteworthy 21-2 advantage in second chance points.

DEBUT TO REMEMBER: Making his first collegiate appearance off the bench, true freshman Braylon Patton went 3-3 behind the arc and finished with 11 points against Mississippi State. Patton had the highest-scoring debut by a true freshman for UNA since Jacari Lane scored 11 points against Oakwood in 2022.

WASHINGTON THE COMMANDER: Despite playing just eight minutes on Tuesday, junior forward Tank Washington played hero in overtime against Northwestern State. He scored his first two points as a Lion with a go-ahead layup to make it 83-81 with 2:06 left in overtime. Later, with the Lions up 85-83, Washington was guarding leading scorer Micah Thomas, forced him into a bad shot, then cleaned up the offensive rebound with a game-winning block with one second left. This ultimately secured the win.

BLOCK PARTY: UNA finished with eight blocks at Mississippi State. The eight blocks are the third-most in a game at the Division I level — since 2018. The all-time record remains 11 blocks, set last season against Austin Peay in an 88-84 overtime win on Jan. 25, 2025. The four blocks for Corneilous Williams were two shy of his own Division I school record set against Austin Peay last season. All four blocks came in the first half.

PRESEASON HYPE: The Lions were picked first in the ASUN Preseason Media Poll and second in the ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll last month. UNA was also the only team to have more than one player on the all-conference preseason team, as both Corneilous Williams and Donte Bacchus were voted. Williams was one of two unanimous picks along with ASUN Preseason Player of the Year Chris Ashby from Queens.

LOCKED IN: Back in August, UNA Director of Athletics Dr. Josh Looney announced a new five-year contract for head men's basketball coach Tony Pujol on Monday, extending him through the 2029-30 season. Pujol was hired on April 2, 2018 and has been the program's only coach during the Division I era. He enters his eighth season at the helm and has 104 wins over eight seasons.

ON DECK: The Lions will travel to Clemson on Monday night for a nationally-televised matchup on ACC Network. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. CT.
