Women’s Tennis set for home clash versus Samford

Lions look to stay hot in meeting versus Bulldogs

FLORENCE, Ala. (March 5, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team readies for its fourth home dual on Friday, March 7 against the Samford Bulldogs.

The Lions return to Florence with plenty of momentum, looking to continuing rolling after two more wins in meetings versus Missouri State and Southeast Missouri State. Carrying a four-dual win streak, North Alabama meets the Bulldogs in the lone dual of the week in hopes of a fifth-straight win and third-straight at home.

First serve against the Bulldogs is set for 1 p.m. from the UNA Tennis Courts. Live stats will be available and provided closer to match time.

LAST TIME OUT:
North Alabama took two wins from its Kentucky road trip, defeating both Missouri State and Southeast Missouri State in 4-0 sweeps. Junior Senem Ocal and sophomore Ada Karabacak were dominant in their outings with two singles and doubles wins each. Junior Eeva Ristola won three matches across the weekend, including two doubles with junior Stanislava Bobrovnikova. Sophomore Mathilde Delaney nabbed a singles win against Missouri State, completing the 2-0 weekend in the Bluegrass State.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama enters with a 6-2 record on the year, winning six of its previous seven matches. In the six wins, UNA has only surrendered four total points and swept three opponents in Alabama State, Missouri State and SEMO. The Lions win doubles at a 76.5 percent rate and singles at a 62.9 rate, with junior Ada Karabacak leading with six singles wins and junior Eeva Ristola and sophomore Mathilde Delaney leading with six doubles wins.

SCOUTING SAMFORD: The Bulldogs are 7-4 on the year, facing the Lions in their lone dual of the week. Samford is coming off a 4-2 defeat to Troy last time out, but the Bulldogs have won three of their last five duals. Samford is strong with a 70.4 percent win rate in doubles, with Margaret Jaraczewski leading the team with an 8-1 record. Jaraczewski, Eleni Liakonis and Emily Surcey all have six singles wins to tie the team lead. The Bulldogs are led by David Vest.

SERIES HISTORY: The meeting is the 13th in the all-time series, with Samford leading 7-5. The Bulldogs have won the last seven meetings with UNA looking for its first since the 1988 season.
