COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (September 14, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's soccer team earned its fourth win of the season Sunday night, defeating Tennessee Tech 1-0 on the road in Cookeville, Tenn.
Senior forward Alice Bussey scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute, lifting the Lions to their fourth victory of the season. Bussey's goal — her fourth of the season — ties her with Allison Harris for 11th in program history with 21 career goals. Bussey logged five shots with three on goal in her 72 minutes of action.
North Alabama (4-2-2) recorded its fifth shutout in eight games this season as keeper Madison Vukas kept the Tennessee Tech (0-6-3) off the board with five saves. Vukas continues to lead the Atlantic Sun Conference in shutouts.
The Lions have four wins so far this season, over Troy, Southeast Missouri, Alabama State and now Tennessee Tech. Notably, Bussey has scored at least one goal in every win.
UNA put up 17 shots with seven on target and created six corners. In five of the Lions last six games, the team has put up double-digit shots during the contest.
Alongside Bussey, Gracie Tyrrell, Charlotte Sobotka, Maddie Reynolds and Anna Fugarino logged two shots each for UNA.
Tyrrell, Sobotka, Molly Parham and Mya Barr added the four shots on goal.
Much of the night was quiet as UNA and TTU were locked at the half with a 0-0 score.
The two teams sat nearly symmetrical at half with both having eight shots with three on target. The Golden Eagles held the lead with corners in a five to four advantage.
However, the Lions took control in the second half with nine shots, a goal and two corners. North Alabama did not allow a corner opportunity for the Tennessee Tech in the second half.
Bussey's goal is the latest game-winner for UNA this season, surpassing Meg Welsh's 81st-minute strike against Alabama State.
Four players saw full-time in Vukas, Adelyn Speight, Lilly Ford and Avery Smith. Parham logged 82 minutes for the next highest on the team. A total of 21 girls saw the field in tonight's win with Fugarino getting her first start of the season.
UNA will return to action Sunday, Sept. 21, hosting Central Arkansas at 1 p.m. in its ASUN Conference opener. The Lions will have a week of rest following the cancellation of their scheduled match against Mississippi Valley State.
