Dabbs Earnest became the Lions' first basketball All-American when he was named to the NAIA squad in 1961-62. A four-year letterman in basketball from 1959-62, he took the Lions to the NAIA National Tournament in both 1960 and 1962 and scored 1,840 career points for a 17.6 average per game. His holds the UNA single season scoring record and he ranks second in career scoring.
He led the Lions in scoring in 1960, '61 and '62 and set a single game record for most field goals made with 20. His single season marks include highest scoring average (24.03), most rebounds (363), field goals attempted (497), field goals made (243), free throws attempted (202) and free throws made (150). His career records include free throws made (496) and attempted (625) and most times to score in double figures (91).
He scored 46 points against Troy State in 1962 for one of the top single game performances in school history. He scored 30 or more points in a game eight times in his career.
A native of Winfield, Ala., he received a B.S. degree in Secondary Education from Florence State in 1962 and his Master's in 1965. He is deceased.
