The primary booster organization for the University of North Alabama Athletic Department, known as the UNA Sportsman's Club since its founding in 1966, has been rebranded as the
North Alabama Lions Athletic Club, effective for the 2021-22 academic and athletic year.
"The UNA Sportsman's Club Board of Directors and members are proud of our history and the many ways we support the student-athletes at the University of North Alabama," said rebranding subcommittee member Steve Pirkle. "As North Alabama athletes enter their final year of transition to Division I, we are committed to being a Division I organization and feel that rebranding is the appropriate next step. We have chosen a name that embraces both the national brand of the athletic program and the long-standing inclusiveness of our club:Â
The North Alabama Lions Athletic Club. Join us as we take our support to the next level."
As a 501-C-3 non-profit organization, the Sportsman's Club has raised in excess of $2.7 million in support of the UNA Athletic Department since 1997 alone.
Support from the organization provides increased scholarship opportunities, facility improvements and operational expense support. Members of the club are eligible for priority seating at football and basketball events and have access to hospitality areas at select sporting events.
"The University of North Alabama Athletics Department has a tradition of successful programs and competing for championships," said UNA Athletic Director
Mark Linder. The generosity of our booster club members allows UNA to continue competing for championships and develop our young men and women into champions, not only on the field of play, but in the classroom, and most importantly, champions in the game of life."
