FLORENCE, Ala. – With the game tied 3-3 in the seventh inning, Central Arkansas scored four runs in the top of the frame and held on for a 7-3 win over North Alabama in the final game of a three-game ASUN Conference baseball series.
The win gave the Bears their second win in the series, with UNA having taken the middle game on Saturday.
In Sunday's loss, North Alabama out-hit the Bears 12 to nine, but left 11 runners on base. The Lions put the leadoff hitter on base in the fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings but couldn't bring any of them around to score.
With the loss, UNA is now 7-19 overall and 2-7 in the ASUN Conference. The Bears are 11-15 overall and 6-3 in the ASUN.
Central Arkansas got a run in the first inning off UNA starter
Jacob James and added a second run in the second inning.
UNA got a run back in the bottom of the second inning when
Jonathan Lane singled, stole second and scored on an error.
The Lions tied it in the bottom of the third as Levin Jensen doubled and scored on a ground out by
Austin Thrasher.
UCA went back on top with a run in the top of the fourth and the Lions again tied it with a run in the bottom of the fourth, Lane doubled and scored when
Drew Hudson followed with a double of his own.
James pitched five complete innings, allowing three runs on four hits with four walks and six strikeouts.
Austin Nichols (0-5) came on in relief and would take the loss for the Lions, allowing three runs on three hits in the seventh inning.
John Lundgren was charged with the final UCA run in the inning.
Lane finished the day four-for-five for the Lions with two singles and two doubles. Harper and Hudson had two hits each for UNA.
North Alabama is scheduled to host Memphis on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., weather permitting.
