BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (September 15, 2024) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team will play in the Hoover Invitational for a third straight season, playing the three round tournament on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 16-17 at the Hoover Country Club in Hoover, Ala.

NOTABLES
THE FIELD: In the three seasons UNA has competed in the Hoover Invitational, this will be the largest field with 14 teams. UNA will join SEC schools Alabama and Georgia in Hoover, as well as fellow ASUN members Stetson and West Georgia and former ASUN member Kennesaw State. Other schools include UAB, South Alabama, Samford, Southern Miss, UL Monroe, Tennessee Tech, Loyola Chicago and Palm Beach State College.
THE COURSE: One of Birmingham's finest courses, the Hoover Country Club is a 6,900 yard, 18-hole championship course providing golfers of all abilities a fair, yet challenging test of their game. It is located on 3140 Club Drive in Hoover, Ala. in the Birmingham Area.
ORDER OF EVENTS: The Lions departed campus Saturday afternoon and is taking part in a practice round on Sunday. Monday's action begins at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. for the final round. The Lions will tee off on Holes 9-12 to begin the first round.
ABOUT THE LIONS: North Alabama will roll with five golfers this week, including four who competed in the season opener at Clemson on August 26. The top two in the pecking order are returning upperclassmen Jahnavi Prakhya and Hannah Dees. True freshman Sirichaya Chanpen will take the three hole, and sophomore transfer Gracee Prince will take the fourth spot. Rounding out the lineup is redshirt sophomore Kerigan Klauber, a returner who enters her third season. Klauber will make her season debut on Monday.
LAST TIME OUT: UNA finished tied for eighth place out of 16 teams at the Tiger Classic hosted by Clemson on August 26. Prakhya was the highlight of the season opener for UNA, breaking her own two-round school record with an even-par 144 to finish ninth overall in a field of 96. Dees, Prince and Chanpen also competed in the tournament and were all within 15 strokes of Prakhya.
HOOVER REWIND: UNA will play in the Hoover Invitational for a third straight season, finishing seventh of 10 teams in 2022 and sixth of nine teams in 2023. Last season, North Alabama shot up the leaderboard on the final day with the second-lowest round at 295, led by Prakhya with an eighth place finish. She led the team with 10 birdies, while Dees led all golfers in the tournament with a steady 41 pars over three rounds to tie for 21st. Both golfers also competed in the 2022 Hoover Invitational with top 40 finishes.
