FLORENCE --
Chloe Richards scored three goals in the first half to lead the University of North Alabama to a 4-1 Gulf South Conference win over Christian Brothers at the UNA soccer field.
UNA, now 10-2-1 overall, improved to 6-2 in GSC play. Christian Brothers falls to 7-5-1 and 4-4-1.
Richards, who leads the NCAA Division II with 23 goals this season, recorded her ninth career hat-trick and her 16th career match with two or more goals. She is also now tied with Tassia Augusto for the second most goals in UNA history with 64.
She put UNA on the board first at the 28:13 mark off assists from
Kylie Huey and
Samantha Parrish. With 37:03 on the clock she added her second goal on an assist from
Stacey Webber to make it 2-0. Her third goal came in the 45th minute (44:27) off an assist from freshman
Anna Katherine Green.
UNA pushed its lead to 4-0 in the second half on a goal from
Eleanor Costello at the 57:15 mark. It was her third goal of the season.
Alyssa Bova and
Beatriz Fernandes assisted.
Christian Brothers got its lone goal with just 57 seconds left in the match as Connie Strini scored for the fourth time this season.
UNA out-shot CBU 26 to 10, led by Richards with 12 shots. Costello added six and had five shots on goal.
UNA's
Shelby Thornton had three saves in the win.
