VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Despite holding a 16-7 shot advantage, the 15th ranked University of North Alabama women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a 2-1 decision at Valdosta State.
With the loss, UNA is 7-1-1 overall and 3-1 in the Gulf South Conference. The loss snapped a 15-match regular season unbeaten streak for UNA dating back to 2014.
After 81 scoreless minutes, UNA got on the board first when
Kylie Huey scored her sixth goal of the season at the 81:41 mark. That ead was short-lived as Valdosta State tied the match on a penalty kick in the 86th minute. That goal by Ava Scott-Moncrief tied the match a 1-1 and Suvi Savolainen scored at the 88:00 mark to give the Blazers the 2-1 advantage.
North Alabama hosts West Georgia in another key GSC match Sunday at 1 p.m.
