FLORENCE, Ala. --
Chloe Richards scored three goals and
Kylie Huey had two goals and an assist as the University of North Alabama overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit and routed Alabama-Huntsville 6-1 at the UNA Soccer Field.
The Lions, ranked 14th nationally in the NCAA Division II, improved to 4-0-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Gulf South Conference. UAH falls to 3-2-1 and 0-1 in league play. The win also runs UNA's regular-season unbeaten streak to 12 games and extends the Lions current winning streak over the Chargers to 11 straight.
Alexcia Alexander scored the first goal of the match at 13:45 of the first half and the Chargers held that 1-0 advantage at intermission, despite being out-shot 11 to three.
UNA made its shots count in the final 45 minutes as the Lions scored on six of their 17 shots.
Richards tied the match off an assist from
Margarida Sousa at 51:28, then Huey took a pass from Sousa and gave UNA the lead with a goal at the 53:09 mark. Huey scored again just over five minutes later off a pass from
Beatriz Fernandes to extend the UNA lead to 3-1 at 58:36.
The goals kept coming as
Eleanor Costello blasted one in from far out on the left side off a pass from Sousa to make it 4-1 in the 61st minute. Richards then netted the final two goals at 61:57 and 74:20 to push her season total to eight. She has scored at least one goal in each of UNA's five matches this season. Huey assisted on the final goal against the Chargers.
UNA out-shot UAH 28 to four and the Chargers goalkeeper, Larae Breaux, had 14 saves. UNA's
Shelby Thornton had one save.
North Alabama hosts Lee Sunday in another GSC match at 7 p.m.
