FLORENCE, Ala. -- The University of North Alabama picked up a key Gulf South Conference win and ran its regular-season unbeaten streak to 13 games with a solid 3-0 win over Lee University. The Lions, now 5-0-1 this season and 2-0 in GSC play, dropped Lee to 1-3-2 and 0-1 in the GSC. It was UNA's first win over Lee in five all-time series meetings.
UNA broke on the board early with a goal from
Beatriz Fernandes at the 16:33 mark off an assist from
Kylie Huey. That remained the only goal of the half as the two teams combined for just six total shots in the first 45 minutes.
UNA got an insurance goal in the 62nd minute when Huey drove past defenders and netted her fifth goal of the season to make it 2-0.
The final score came at the 75:26 mark as
Chloe Richards scored her ninth goal of the season off an assist from
Eleanor Costello. Richards has now scored at least one goal in each of UNA's six matches this season and pushed her career total to 50.
UNA goalkeeper
Shelby Thornton recorded the shutout with four saves.
UNA out-shot Lee 12 to eight.
The Lions travel to Shorter on Wednesday for another Gulf South Conference match.
