UNA VOLLEYBALL DOWNS CLARION, HILLSDALE

CLARION, Pa., –  After dropping a pair of five-set matches on the opening day of the Tony Banner Invitational, the University of North Alabama volleyball team rebounded on Saturday with two victories to even its record on the year. The Lions defeated host Clarion 3-1 before knocking off Hillsdale by the same score to improve to 2-2 on the season.

Andrea De Leon and Natasha Fomina paced a Lion offensive attack that hit .286 on the day with 100 assists and 39 kills respectively.  
 
Against the host Eagles, three players reached double figures in kills for UNA as the Lions picked up their first win of the season. After posting wins in the first two sets, North Alabama had match point on three different occasions, but couldn't get the sweep. Trailing 24-22, Clarion rallied by scoring five of the next six points to extend the match.
 
UNA saved its best for the final set. The Lions hit .382 as a team and used an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach.
 
Fomina had 15 kills and hit .370 for the match. Lexie Bradley added 12 kills while Peyton Lang also reached double figures with 10 kills for the Lions. De Leon produced 43 assists.
 
Defensively, four players recorded double digit dig totals, led by Ashtyn Kapovich's 16 digs. De Leon was right behind with 15 digs while Lang had 12 and Sarah Ann Tillery had 11 for the match.
 
North Alabama overcame a 25-23 loss in the opening set against Hillsdale to post three consecutive wins. De Leon was just one shy of a career-high with 57 assists as UNA posted season-high numbers in kills (73) and team hitting percentage (.311).
 
Fomina hit .455 for the match and recorded a match-high 24 kills. Lang added 17 assists while Bradley and Jessica Austin had 10 kills each.
 
Kapovich again posted solid dig numbers with 19 for the match. Tillery added 15 digs while De Leon had her third double-double of the season with 12 digs.
 
North Alabama will return home to host the UNA Volleyball Classic next weekend. The Lions will play four matches over two days, beginning with a 1 p.m. matchup against Kentucky Wesleyan Friday at Flowers Hall.
