FLORENCE, Ala. – Freshman
Shelby Wall scored a goal in the 71
st minute to break a 1-1 tie and lift the University of North Alabama women's soccer team to a 2-1 Gulf South Conference win over Alabama-Huntsville. It was the Lions 11
th straight win over the Chargers dating back to 2008.
With the win, UNA is 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the GSC. UAH is now 4-3 and 1-2.
North Alabama took the early lead with a goal by
Audrey Tanner at the 42:21 mark of the first half.
Beatriz Fernandes assisted on the goal to give UNA a 1-0 lead.
Although the Lions had out-shot the Chargers 23-1, UAH managed to tie the match at 1-1 on their second shot of the night as Alexcia Alexander took a ball at midfield and drove the right side all the way to the goal. It was her third goal of the season.
Wall then provided the game-winner from almost point-blank range as she took a ball off a deflection and scored at 70:03 to make it 2-1.
UNA out-shot UAH 25 to six in the match. UNA keeper
Kate Webster recorded four saves and UAH's Larae Breaux had nine.
North Alabama hosts West Alabama in another GSC match on Sunday at 1 p.m.
