FLORENCE, Ala. -- Sophomore
Shelby Wall scored three goals to lead North Alabama to a 6-1 rout of Delta State in a Gulf South Conference match at the UNA Soccer Complex.
Wall scored the only goal of the first half in the 33rd minute and then ignited a five-goal second half by the Lions with her second goal at 47:29 and her third at 64:23.
Beatriz Fernandes,
Kylie Huey and
Sara Litmanen scored one goal each for the Lions.
With the win, North Alabama improves to 9-2 overall and 8-1 in the GSC. Delta State is now 2-9 overall and 3-9 in GSC play.
Wall's initial goal was unassisted to give UNA a 1-0 lead at the 32:20 mark of the first half.
Wall's second goal was assisted by Huey to push the lead to 2-0. Huey then assisted on the goal by Fernandez off a corner kick to make it 3-0 at 48:43. Wall's third goal of the night and eighth of the season was assisted by Cavett to push the UNA advantage to 4-0.
Huey scored at the 65:44 mark off an assist from
Tay Cavett to make it 5-0. It was Huey's seventh goal of the season.
Delta State got on the scoreboard in the 78th minute as Shelsea Hurren netted her first goal of the season.
The final goal of the night came from Litmanen at 77:50 to make it 6-1, marking the most goals scored by the Lions in a match this season.
Shelby Thornton recorded two saves for UNA and the Lions out-shot the Statesmen 21-9.
North Alabama's match with Mississippi College schedule for Sunday has been moved to Monday (October 9) at 1 p.m. due to predicted severe weather on Sunday.
